Teaching Philosophy, Teachers and Staff

We believe that great teachers are not just ones who transmit information, teach skills, and help students to earn best marks in exam. The teachers of Oxford House School are those who share their passion for knowledge and curiosity with their students, inspire the students' creativity, develop their critical thinking ability, and prepare them for the complex world they will face after stepping off campus.

Passion
Passion is one of the most key parts of effective teaching. It leads to thorough preparation, a continuous desire to improve teaching skills, and an intense pleasure in watching students learn. How well the students can learn greatly depends on how passionate and how devoted a teacher is.

Interest Growing
Teaching is not just a way to impart knowledge, but can also be used as a method to raise interest in the subject. Students are naturally curious. They are attracted by the world around them. Teaching is far more effective when students are truly interested in one subject and then only they will "actively" learn and seek new knowledge rather than feeling like they are being "forced" to learn by the teacher.

Critical Thinking
A teacher should encourage critical thinking and should always try to be respectful of different opinions. Students, on the other hand, should learn to think independently, not blindly accept the teacher's opinions. A teacher should be prepared to challenge and be challenged by the students as every student possesses unique viewpoints, and they should be supportive when considering their different views.

Preparation of course materials
Course materials should be presented in an interesting and interactive environment, which will make the student want to learn and remember more information. For this reason, I believe that using computer based technology such as multimedia, slides, and the Internet, is an effective way to complement traditional lectures, laboratory exercises and even exams. Nevertheless, readings combined with traditional lectures are still the foundation of the educational experience.

Introduction to real research world
Interested higher secondary students (specially, science based subject) are provided the opportunity to identify themselves with their scientific community, by greater exposure to the cutting edge of the field. This involves use of scientific literature, opportunity to be involved in seminars, workshops, and conferences in national and international level, as well as chances to carry out basic fundamental research projects.

Suggestion box (if the strength of the students is too much in a class)
To enhance the communication between teachers and students, students are invited to submit their queries, comments and suggestions concerning the lecture in a suggestion box. These suggestions will be addressed in the next lecture or another appropriate lecture.

Students friendly relationship in and outside the class room
Much learning occurs through the direct interaction of students with faculty members. Frequent interaction with teachers outside the students’ area of expertise is a necessary for multidisciplinary work and it helps students to develop the communication skills that are vital in their professional careers.
